Day 8: Theodore Roosevelt National Park to Glacier National Park

By this point in my trip I had started to feel a bit homeless and tired from the driving and moving camp every day, and I almost skipped Theodore Roosevelt National Park entirely, being somewhat off my planned route west to Glacier NP and the Canadian Rockies. I’m glad I went though. Hiking among the expansive buttes and prairies of the North Dakota Badlands at TRNP was the first time during my trip that I felt real solitude. It had fewer crowds, and I went with few expectations, which added to my enjoyment of the park. I would love to visit the park again one day and spend more time there.

Despite the long upcoming drive to Glacier NP that day, I decided I had to do one good hike in the North Unit of TRNP before leaving :) I hiked the short but lovely Caprock Coulee trail in the morning, got on the road in the early afternoon, and arrived at Glacier NP after dark.

Distance hiked: 4.4 mi; elevation gain: 718 ft
