Day 23: Sulphur Mountain
After a break in Calgary we returned to Banff National Park and camped at the Tunnel Mountain Village campground for several nights. Our first day hike in Banff was the Sulphur Mountain trail which took us to an observation deck with scenic views of the town of Banff and the surrounding mountains - also accessible via a gondola ride from Banff. The best views and gnarliest hiking were to be had after we left the crowds and headed towards the true summit of Sulphur mountain, and the trail soon turned into a challenging scramble. We decided to turn back after reaching the second false summit (two-thirds of the way to the true summit) to avoid having to scramble our way back in the dark.
Distance hiked: 9.4 mi; elevation gain: 3128 ft
